The idea of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Edge will certainly get a lot of attention, but it all started with another smartphone from the same manufacturer. The South Korean giant has done a great job over the years in listening to not only what consumers want, but what we all expect. We have seen a huge transformation in the Galaxy S series that has pushed the envelope on innovation while truly inventing what mobility was meant to be.
The Galaxy S9 Edge will be made official during the quarter one of 2018, but that won’t stop consumers from looking for more much earlier than in previous years. The concept of the Edge variant will appeal to many loyal consumers while bringing in new ones. With the many changes in store, it’ll be interesting to see what Samsung has in-store for us next.
In the following preview, we detail all there is to know on the Samsung Galaxy S9 Edge rumors, specs, features, concept, preorders, and release date by country.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Edge Rumors
Much of what’s being talked about on the Galaxy S9 Edge is more color variants, the possibility of an earlier than expected release, and many upgrades. Samsung has done a great job offering unique color options, and many have been carrier specific such as pink gold and green. Other options such as yellow and a ruby red are being rumored and would be offered by all carriers worldwide, but this has yet to be confirmed.
Other rumors out of South Korea suggests Sammy is looking on launching all of their next generation handsets for 2018 earlier than expected. This may include the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 Edge, Galaxy S9 Edge Plus, and Galaxy Note 8. The tech giant has created a better production methodology which has allowed them to cut the amount of production time while making it much easier to make on-the-fly changes to the concept itself. It wouldn’t surprise us to see all of their 2018 flagships a month or two ahead of schedule.
Many upgrades are also being rumored such as longer battery life, higher camera specs, better security, and much more power. The battery life can be contributed to the next generation Qualcomm processor which will make its way too many upcoming smartphones that will not only introduce much faster handsets, but much more efficient one’s. We’re also hoping to see security upgrades from the rumored eye sensing technology which we’re also hearing a lot about.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Edge Specs
Many of the Galaxy S9 Edge specs will be comparable to the S9 which will launch at the same time. Both phones will be similar in stature with the obvious difference being in the size and the Edge controls. The S7 Edge will be slightly larger and with Edge controls on the right side of the screen along with the curved display which truly defines the handset.
Expect to see both an Exynos and Qualcomm chipset which will vary by location. As of yet, there’s no word on the Exynos processor, but we’re hearing the Snapdragon Qualcomm 830 SoC along with 5GB RAM will be supplying the power. This will make for a much faster smartphone which consumers will see the biggest difference with efficiency and multi-tasking capabilities.
In a time when fingerprint scanners are becoming a sort of standard feature, the time is coming for a much more secure security sensor. This may be the first time we see an eye sensor integrated into any Samsung flagship which is something we’re all hoping for. With mobile payment options becoming bigger, better, and much more popular, the added security tied to your payment gateway such as Samsung Pay and Google Pay will be a welcomed addition.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Edge Features
The IP68 rating, gorilla glass screen and back, along with all the top sensors we’ve come to expect will return, but see upgrades as well. The S7 and S7 Edge we’re Samsung’s 1st flagships besides the Active series to offer waterproof and dustproof features, but expect to see submersions in more than 9 meters. Also, a new Gorilla Glass may be seen making both the screen and glass back indestructible. I can think of many consumers who will fall in love with a new Gorilla Glass feature.
With consumers becoming more reliant on a phone being more than just a phone as it’s now regarded as a rolodex, health related guide, multimedia device, and so much more. Health sensors such as heart rate monitoring and even checking one’s own oxygen levels will help with fitness and improve one’s own health awareness while there are numerous apps and sensors that will continue to change mobile gaming, productivity, and staying connected.
One of the biggest new features we’re hearing about is a true 3D handheld. This would be a nice feature if it’s integrated into the camera as well as the viewing screen as it would add a unique element and make videos and pictures much more lifelike. 3D video recording and playback along with 3D picture taking, viewing, and sharing had been a long time coming, and something we’re hearing will be introduced into next generation Samsung smartphones in 2018.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Edge Concept
The Galaxy S9 Edge concept will continue to center on the overall user experience. This is what we have seen over the years with the Edge variant that gives users independent controls which can control such things as notifications, email, apps, and other customizable options.
The improvements we’ll see will improve the idea of a multimedia devices that literally does it all. Replacing many things such as a computer, book, navigation, payment gateway, and virtually every other tech device is what a smartphone has become.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Edge Price
Remaining consistent, not much is expected to change with carrier pricing of the S9 Edge. Retailing for around $100 more than the Galaxy S9 on launch day and will be sold by all of the top carriers worldwide. Unlocked variants will also become available for around $1100 USD which will free consumers from any long-term contracts and any roaming charges from traveling from one location to another.
Here in the US, the launch price of the S9 Edge will set you back around $850 if you’re looking to pay the full price, and if not, don’t worry as carriers will offer installment options as well. For instance, Verizon will offer Verizon Edge which allows you to spread out the monthly payments for a period of 24 months for under $35/month which will be comparable with AT&T’s Next, Carphone Warehouse for about £37.00/month, and all of the others worldwide.
For carriers offering two year contracts, you can expect to pay $299, but many carriers are going away from these contracts all-together.
